Hisham Oumlil

Hisham Oumlil was born into a family of merchants in Casablanca, Morocco in October of 1972. It was they who, from an early age, taught him the beautiful art of trading. And it was the city, with its rich and illustrious history, that instilled within him a desire to tell stories through a visual medium. In time, an appreciation for the historical cultural exchanges between the people of Morocco and others developed within him. As a young man, he came to admire many international artists who made Morocco their second home and thus born his own interest in exploring the world at large, which brought him to the Unites States as a student in the early nineties.

To build upon his previous experiences in the retail fashion industry—working for brands such as Krizia, Versace, Hermes, and Loro Piana, Hisham undertook a two year apprenticeship under Master Tailor Rocco Ciccarelli to prepare for the 2006 launch of Oumlil.

His profile and designs have been featured in fashion publications worldwide, appearing in GQ, Details, Vanity Fair, Men's Vogue, GQ Style Germany, and L'Officiel Hommes Maroc, the last being a magazine he graced the cover of in 2011. In 2008, Hisham won the Fashion Group International award for emerging talent in menswear, and had the honor of being featured for his expert tailoring and unwavering attention to fine detail in Patricia Mears' "American Beauty," a book published as a historical survey on the innovations and aesthetics of prominent American fashion designers.
